Hungarian Christmas Coffee Cake

I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’ve changed things up a bit.  I am so into cooking and baking that I decided to put it all down here in the blog.  So I changed the title of the site just a little.  Still same web address so no worries!

I make this recipe each and every year at Christmas time.  I’ve even given it as gifts.  It is a recipe from my best friend’s mother.  She had it for years and passed it on and it’s been in my family for years as well.  And I’ve learned that it’s also almost an exact recipe of Boston Tea Cakes “traditional sour cream & cinnamon” coffee cake.  Mouth watering!

Hungarian Christmas Coffee Cake
1 stick margarine
1 stick butter (do not substitute)
1 1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Topping:
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons sugar

Cream margarine, butter, sugar and eggs.  Add sour cream and vanilla.  Mix well.  Add dry ingredients.  Pour 1/2 of batter in tube pan sprayed with no-stick spray.  Sprinkle with 1/2 of the topping.  Add the rest of the batter and sprinkle with the rest of the topping over top.  Bake at 350 F for 1 hour.
